MailFiler Tip #5 - Share Your Mails Via A Web Browser Or Have A Workgroup Of Mails.

If you have people dealing with projects , customer cases , jobs etc. you can gain full visibility on all emails sent and received via a web browser.

Share Over a Network

Within each Project / Job etc. you can select to to save your mails to the file system (as per Tip#4). You can also select a shared folder or network location here.

To share the mails via a browser over HTTP you should save them to a folder and then point an IIS Virtual Directory to that folder. IIS comes with Windows 2000 and Windows XP Professional Edition.

To configure IIS ...

Start IIS and under 'Default Web Site' right-click and do 'New'

Give the website a name (e.g. Mail)

Point the Content Directory to be the Root folder of your projects - this will be one level above one specific folder for filing mails in. For example if you had a Project called 'ProjectX' and the mails were filed to 'C:\Projects\ProjectX' then the Content Directory would be 'C:\Projects'

Finally select the default permissions (as per screen below).

To assist with browsing the site you should also add 'Index.htm' as a default document site. To do this you right click on your new website (Mail) and choose properties.

You should now be able to browse your web site of email by pointing your browser to

http://{your computer}/Mail
